Biden and Johnson met in front of the G7 summit
England was the initial stop of Biden on his first foreign trip, and he met Johnson for the first time on Thursday.
The White House said Biden gave Johnson “an American-made bicycle and bicycle helmet made specifically by Bilenky Cycle Works, a small family business located in Philadelphia.” Biden was born in Pennsylvania.
The White House said the prize was “friendship signal and in recognition of interest in them in cycling.”
Johnson’s office said the Prime Minister gave Biden as a photo of a mural in Edinburgh Frederick Douglass. Jill Biden got the first edition of Daphne du Maurier novel. Most of his work is set in Cornwall.
Falmouth, England – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the seven leaders will promise to share 1 billion doses of coronavirus vaccine with poor countries during the meeting of the clubs of the nations in the UK.
Speeding up the global recovery of pandemic is the dominant problem at the top. While countries such as the US and Britain have provided a vaccine shooting to most adults, many countries, especially in Africa, have a little dose or nothing.
Johnson said on Thursday that the promise of the leaders of the G-7 at the top meant “we can vaccinate the world at the end of next year and rebuild better than Coronavirus.”
U.K. Do not reveal the details of commitment, but President Joe Biden said the A.S. will provide 500 million doses of Pfizer-Bontech vaccine over the next year, and Johnson said England would give 100 million doses. Chancellor Angela Merkel said last month that Germany was ready to donate 30 million doses at the end of the year.
It is also unclear how they will be produced and distributed. The British government says that vaccines will be given “through sharing doses and financing” and that the manufacturing vaccine expansion will be part of hitting the target.
Paris – French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed as a “big news” of the United States decision to donate 500 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine to the poorest countries.
In a press conference on Thursday, Macron said, “I think the European Union needs to have at least the same level of ambition as the United States,” and can make a similar announcement.
Macron added that the shipping schedule needs to be determined.
US commitment is to buy and contribute 500 million doses of Pfizer for distribution in mid 2022 through the Global Covax Alliance to 92 low-income countries and the African Union.
France insisted on the importance of helping Africa, in particular, with a vaccine since last year.
France is the first rich country to contribute through Covax, send 100,000 doses to Mauritania in April, and Macron said that the country would contribute half a million doses in mid-June and 30 million doses at the end of the year.
