Ukraine seeks heavy weapons from U.S. at Kyiv talks on April 24: Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine hoped to secure heavy weapons in talks with the Secretary of State and US defense in Kyiv on Sunday, the inventory he said was very important for Ukraine to finally reclaim the area occupied by Russia.The Ukrainian leader warned that Kyiv would stop talking to Moscow if Russia destroyed “our people” surrounded in Mariupol’s torn war or a referendum monitored to create a republic to separate the newly occupied Ukrainian land.

At one point at the emotional press conference, he said that he thought Russia could use nuclear weapons, but he did not want to believe that Moscow would do it.He said that it was very important for Ukrainians to get more weapons. “As soon as we have (more weapons), as soon as there is enough, believe me, we will soon reclaim this or the area, which is temporarily occupied,” he told reporters.

He used a press conference held on the Kyiv Metro system to announce the arrival of A.S. State Secretary Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin for the conversation on Sunday.”Tomorrow we will discuss the list of the right weapons which is important to us and the shipping rate,” he said. “We expect this. We want to have … strong heavy weapons.”

He fought tears at one point said that he shared the pain of every Ukraine who had lost children in the Russian war and that Saturday missile attacks have killed eight people in the city of Odesa, including three-month-old children.He said that Saturday had become one of the most difficult days but for Ukrainian troops pursuantly at Mariupol and Kyiv had offered Moscow every type of exchange that was possible to secure their release.Ukrainian forces hide in a steel work in the city of Mariupol.
